As far as Windows is concerned, we are talking about the most popular operating system of all those that are available, to properly manage our computers, and that is why new versions of it are still available. Microsoft is now releasing a version of Windows 11this one comes with new features, although some want to stick with the Windows 10 start menu, but with the new version, it’s very interesting.

Windows 11 comes with what we know from the beginning as automatic updates, which for many are a nuisance because they require a lot of time and in addition to several reboots, in this article we will investigate how to stop these forced system updates and have control over what happens to our team, let’s see what all this is about.

How do I turn off automatic updates in Windows 11?

As for what options we have to disable or limit these updates that Windows requires for its full operation, we have two that serve and can help us for this purpose. But be aware that Windows does this for two reasons, one for “System Enhancement” and the second for monitor who has the product officially.

It is important to know that if we can stop this, our copy may be invalidated in the future, so we will have to make use of the key, and then enter the updates What we didn’t want to do in the beginning is like turning in a circle. Anyway, there are solutions for when we upgrade to Windows 11 from Windows 10, let’s see

Using a registry editor

From the registry editor this option cancellation of updates is available. To do this, go to the Start menu, then in the search box enter “regeit”, open it and enter this route “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE – Software – Policies – Microsoft – Windows”.

Right-click on “Windows”, and now select “new> Password” and name this new path “WindowsUpdate”. After created we right click and again “New> Key”, we assign the name “AU”, in a free space we right click “New> DWORD value (32 bits)” and we assign the name “NoAutoUpdate”. Now we give double click on this value and we change the value assigned to 1we apply the changes and ready.

manage updates with group policies

With group management

From the group directives it is also possible to perform this action, although it is available for only two versions, for Windows 11 pro and for Windows 11 Enterpriseto do this we will proceed as follows.

  1. Home> copy “gpedit”
  2. When we open the policy editor we follow the path
  3. Equipment Configuration
  4. Administrative Templates
  5. Windows components
  6. Windows Update
  7. Manage end-user experience
  8. Being here we select, “Configure automatic updates”

Now a window will open in this one, we tick the box disabled, and we accept the changes by clicking on “apply” and then on “OK”, we can do the same job to receive updates in the future

What is the process for using Windows Update Blocker and blocking updates?

Also if we want to avoid this whole process we can access install Windows Update Blocker, we download it first, once we have it available. We will extract it, then run the .exe file, which is in the download.

In this we will check the “disable Updates” box (disable updates), we activate the security box of the services and finally we give it to apply, in this step the symbol will turn red, which means that the updates are deactivated

How do I set up a measured connection to stop updates?

One of the options we can also count on, to stop updates to Windows, is to limit the amount of data we can download. In this way the system will not be able to make large downloads and they will be canceled, that is, you will limit your download connection to the internet.

For this we go to Home> Settings> Network and Internet, then in state settings select “Data usage” here we click on “enter limit” here we enter the download limit, of course this operation adjusts to the whole PC not only to the updates.

What if automatic updates are still enabled?

With all this, the updates should already be under control, but there are cases in which this continues to happen. For this we can explore a couple more options that may help us solve this situation of updates. We can try, disable them for some timeand if the intention is to remove the contents of Windows, to perform a restore, this may help to avoid delays, when re-integrating the system.

modifying updates

Disable for weeks

As for updates, if you can’t remove them effectively, you can simply disable them from the system for a while for this procedure it is not necessary to do much let’s see how it is done.

First we enter a Home> Settings> Update and Security> Windows Updatethis part was the updates waiting to be downloaded when the desktop closes at the bottom you will get an option that says “Pause Updates for 7 days”, by choosing this option the system will tell us that the updates have been paused, and an option will appear telling us to “pause for seven more days”, this way we can pause them for up to 5 weeks.

Correct codes

To disable Windows updates we can also choose to enter commands or codes using the run window, first press “Windows + R”, then enter “services.msc” and we accept in the window that appears we locate “Windows Update” and we click on the option “Startup type” and then on disabled and finally click on accept
